The iconic twisted horn is said to ward off the evil eye which is believed to harm the burgeoning life of fruited trees, young mothers and the like. In Greek myth, the horn of a goat that was broken by a baby Zeus, providing a never-ending bounty of sustaining fruits and nuts.
